Green businesses on the rise
New Mexico Businesses are looking at new energy technologies. As News22′s Susy Castillo reports the reasearch is creating more environmentally friendly jobs.
New Mexico is taking advantage of its natural resources by using solar panels and increasing use of wind power, and that is just the beginning to what some think is a bright future for green jobs un New Mexico.
“The business community from the state come together because they want to know what’s happening with solar energy, what’s happening with wind energy,” says Lawrence Rael, President of NM Green Chamber of Commerce
The president of the New Mexico Green Chamber of Commerce says there are almost 3500 green energy related jobs in New Mexico.
“It’s also important to bring more and more folks into the discussion about why the future jobs of this country and particularly of this state are really going to be based on clean energy and renewable energy.”
And the Mobile Workforce Unit was here to help out.
Job seekers can come in to find information regarding jobs within the community.
“There’s funds available for individuals who get training on green jobs. Because the future is going green,” says Juan Diaz from the Green Mobile Workforce Unit.
Clean Edge, a company that measures how well states use clean energy says New Mexico is eighth in the country in clean energy use.
And with the future going green, Senator Jeff Bingaman says New Mexico is a leader in the industry.
“Well I feel really good about it and I hope we can continue to be a leader in the country,” says Senator Jeff Bingaman
He says energy research and production are goals to make the country more energy efficient and New Mexico is headed in the right direction.
